Cambia Health Foundation President Peggy Maguire believes in strategic philanthropy as a powerful catalyst for social change. Under her leadership, the Foundation has purposefully invested more than $30M to advance palliative care access and awareness to help people with serious illness and their caregivers live well. Courtney Martin has a parallel career in giving voice and momentum to emerging ideas and individuals as a means of generating solutions. Together, they share their experience and vision for ways to accelerate a movement that infuses empathy in health care and results in a more human-centered experience. 

About the Speakers

Peggy Maguire is President of Cambia Health Foundation, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Palliative Care Solutions for Cambia Health Solutions. In her role, Peggy is the chief architect and orchestrator of Cambia’s comprehensive approach to improving care for people living with serious illness. Working with a wide range of stakeholders to drive healthcare transformation that results in better experiences for people and families, she provides leadership and direction over Cambia’s Personalized Care Support program, which includes health insurance benefits for palliative care services, and advises the company on strategic investments that address aging, caregiving, and coordinated care. 

Courtney E. Martin is an author, entrepreneur, and weekly columnist for On Being. Her latest book, The New Better Off, explores how people are re-defining the American dream (think more fulfillment, community, and fun, less debt, status, and stuff). Courtney is Co-Founder of the Solutions Journalism Network and FRESH Speakers Bureau, and consults with TED, the Aspen Institute, and the Obama Foundation. She has appeared on the TODAY Show, MSNBC, and The O’Reilly Factor, and speaks widely at conferences and colleges. She lives with her family in a co-housing community in Oakland.
