Intended Audience

This activity was developed for physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals specializing in palliative care, geriatrics, neurology, pediatrics, oncology, and chronic illness management.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will do the following:

  • Describe approaches for empathic, patient- and family-centered communication that facilitate shared decision-making and honor individual values throughout serious illness and end-of-life care.
  • Explain evidence-based and culturally inclusive care strategies that promote comfort, dignity, and equitable support for diverse patients and families facing dying and grief.
  • Identify key physiological and psychosocial changes associated with the natural dying process to inform symptom management and guide family education.
  • Discuss reflective and team-based strategies that enhance moral resilience, interprofessional collaboration, and professional wellbeing when caring for dying patients.

Accreditation and Certification 

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower (Annenberg Center) and the End Well Foundation. The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physicians

The Annenberg Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Social Workers

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 6.5 general continuing education credits.

Nurses

The Annenberg Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) contact hours.
