About the Speakers

Ali Shaheed Muhammad is the DJ/producer best known as one-third of the legendary hip hop group, A Tribe Called Quest. He has consistently used his voice to activate cultural transformation. In addition to more recent solo work, he has also collaborated with Mos Def, John Legend, Maxwell, D’Angelo, Gil Scott-Heron, and many others.

Courtney E. Martin is obsessed with storytelling and solutions. An author, entrepreneur and weekly columnist for On Being, her latest book is The New Better Off: Reinventing the American Dream. She co-founded the Solutions Journalism Network, and works regularly with TED, The Aspen Institute and the Obama Foundation. Courtney has appeared on the TODAY Show, Good Morning America, MSNBC and The O’Reilly Factor, and speaks widely at conferences and colleges throughout the country.
