Intended Audience


This activity was developed for physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other healthcare professionals specializing in palliative care, geriatrics, neurology, pediatrics, oncology, and chronic illness management.

Learning Objectives


At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will do the following:

  • Develop and implement standardized communication protocols to ensure compassionate and consistent interaction with patients and their families, improving the patient experience and care coordination.
  • Analyze interdisciplinary team dynamics to identify improvement areas and apply collaborative strategies that enhance the efficacy of care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
  • Employ evidence-based practices in the management of pain and other symptoms for both adult and pediatric palliative care patients to enhance quality of life and reduce suffering.
  • Formulate comprehensive care plans that integrate spiritual, psychological, and physical health needs of patients, utilizing insights from chaplaincy and therapeutic arts to improve overall patient outcomes.
  • Design and organize healthcare system resources to optimize the provision of end-of-life care, ensuring efficient use of facilities, personnel, and technologies.
  • Assess the impact of implemented quality improvement strategies on patient – clinician communication and adjust protocols to continuously improve care delivery effectiveness.
